About Dads Like Me

Hi, I'm Warrick

I’m a dad, husband, cook, household administrator, occasional cleaner, and part-time worker when my health allows. I’m also very funny — at least according to me.

My life also comes with more than most. I have an ileostomy. I’ve had nine major abdominal operations, survived a 30-minute cardiac arrest, and live with chronic pain, bipolar disorder, severe anxiety, and a lot of low-energy days.

And through all of that, I’m an incredible dad.

I put my son first. I shower him with love and fun, but I also give him guidance and boundaries. I try — and mostly succeed — at being a good husband. I cook, do the household admin and, when my body allows, I work.

Dads Like Me is where I talk about what it’s actually like to be a dad when you’re dealing with more than most — the hard parts, the ordinary parts, the funny parts and the good stuff that’s easy to miss.

If any of that sounds familiar, stick around. You might just find something here that feels like you.

A note about privacy: I use a different name for my son in my writing to protect his privacy as he grows up.
